Travel to Minnesota's "oldest city" ~ Wabasha, Minnesota, located on the along the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River. We'll help them celebrate their 10th Annual "Sept Oberfest" featuring an array of exhibits including the largest pumpkins, tallest sunflowers, scarecrows, pumpkin derby, German Heritage, and topiaries. Meander Wabasha’s autumn decorations throughout town and enjoy German music and food. In addition to this wonderful fall long weekend tour, we've also included a visit to the Historic Mayowood Mansion and a cruise on the "Pearl of the Lake" paddlewheel boat on Lake Pepin. Day One: Thursday, September 21
We'll begin our journey this morning with early morning departures from both Northeast and Central Minnesota. We'll all blend together in the Twin Cities area (specifics to be announced) en-route to southern Minnesota, Just set your seats back and relax as we travel along. You’ll find the day will go by quickly as you enjoy the company of fellow travelers aboard. Stops will be made about every 2 ½ to 3 hours with our lunch stop in Rochester. Today, our first appointment will be at the Maywood Mansion to include a one-hour guided tour prior to visiting the Olmstead Historical Museum. In the late afternoon, we'll make our way northward along the banks of the Mississippi to Wabasha... our home for the next three nights (AmericInn Hotel & Suites). Tonight a wonderful German Dinner, included, awaits us at Reeds Landing.
Day Two: Friday, September 22
Enjoy an included deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel.
In the late morning, we'll board the coach and travel to the National Eagle Center. Have you ever wondered “How much does an eagle weigh?” “How big is their wingspan?” The answers await you in an engaging and entertaining live eagle program. The National Eagle Center always has special events happening during SeptOberfest. Once we are done visiting here, we'll make our way over to Lark Toys! Here you can get your lunch and check out toys from every generation (including your own!) In the mid-afternoon, we'll return to the hotel to relax a bit before taking you out on Lake Pepin. A delightful Dinner Cruise on the "Pearl of the Lake" is planned (menu yet to be announced) along with a wonderful sunset.
Day Three: Saturday, September 23
Enjoy an included deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel.
This day is dedicated to SeptOberfest! Enjoy all things German~ We'll be in the downtown area where the bulk of festivities are located. We'll also move along (with our motor coach) to areas that may be too far to walk. Wabasha offers unique shopping throughout the town but during SeptOberfest ... there's even more to explore! They have over 50 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Expect to enjoy German music and foods, Grandpa's Barn, street performers, carriage rides and the list goes on and on! We'll offer a motor coach shuttle throughout the day for those who would like to return to the hotel to rest.
Day Four: Sunday, September 24
Enjoy an included deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel. Set your luggage outside your doors at 9 am. We'll depart at 10 am.
Today offers a later morning departure so that folks can take in an early morning worship service of their choice. We're happy to get you a list of churches in the area with the time of service. We'll travel homeward with many fond memories of a great long weekend to Wabasha!
Here are a few things to make note of before leaving on your tour...
- Kindly let us know if you have any concerns, special needs or dietary requests. We'll do our best to accommodate them.
- The tour is entirely casual so pack light and accordingly. A light weight jacket, sweater, raingear, umbrella, sunscreen and a swimming suite if you enjoy the pool. You may bring one suitcase each. You may also bring a carry-on bag inside the coach. We do not rotate seats on the bus. We assign people on a first-come, first-served basis & according to special needs.
- If you have any special needs and use a cane, walker or wheel chair, bring it. You must have a caregiver with you to push a wheel chair. We need to know in advance of any special needs so we can be better prepared to assist.
- The coach has Wifi, electrical outlets to charge your electronic devices, flat screen TV, DVD, reclining seats, microphone, window shades and cup holders. You must be able to climb about six steps to get inside the vehicle.
- Tips are included for porters, included meals and any tour guides that step on the coach once the tour begins. Tips for our on board travel host and motorcoach driver may be done on your own.
