The lovely state of Indiana begins bursting with fall colors from early October to the end. If you happen to be a "leaf-peeper", the fall foliage extravaganza is reason enough to join your friends from Happy Trails Tours to Northern Indiana. However, the Amish community of Shipshewana is sure to be ranked right at the top! Shipshewana is named for Chief Shipshewana of the Potawatomi tribe of Native Americans who lived in the area in the mid-1840's. Through the years this small community has become the center for agriculture, retail and manufacturing. With just over 600 residents, Shipshewana welcomes over a million visitors each year. The rich heritage which began in the 1800's continues to today with Amish, Mennonite and faith based influences in the make-up of this northern Indiana town. Your Five Day Tour to the Indiana's Amish Backroads are Listed Below
Day 2: October 19th, MondayThis morning, after breakfast, we'll continue our journey southeast to northern Indiana's Newbury County to Shipshewana. Stops will be made as the day goes along. We'll arrive in the late afternoon to the lovely Blue Gate Inn. We'll unpack our luggage and settle in for the next two nights. The late afternoon holds a treat in store as our horse-drawn carriage brings us to the Blue Gate Theater where our Amish style dinner is served before the show. You won't want to miss this delightful musical comedy, "Half-Stitched". Amish widow, Emma Yoder's first quilt class brings the most unlikely people together. After dinner and show tonight, we'll a return to the hotel for a well-deserved night's rest. Breakfast and Dinner Show is included.
Day 3: October 20th, Tuesday Today is filled with many wonderful attractions beginning a visit to the Menno-Hof Museum. This museum will enlighten you with Amish and Mennonite history and the persecution they endured. We'll also enjoy traveling in our motor coach with a step-on-guide who'll bring to life the people and their way of life on an Amish Backroads Tour. Get ready for a family-style in-home Amish dinner tonight served with two meats and the homemade pie you'll eat anywhere! We'll be sure to visit the Guggisburg Deutsch Kase Haus Country Store & Cheese Store and Dutch Market.I know we've put a lot in this day ... BUT ... you can pace the activities as per how much you can do. Breakfast and Dinner Show is included.
Day 4: October 21, WednesdayAfter breakfast this morning, we'll begin winding our way through the lovely state of Indiana traveling around Lake Michigan to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We'll arrive in the late afternoon and settle into our hotel property for a bit of time to put our feet up before tonight's dinner cruise. We'll board the coach and travel downtown to the Eldeweiss Boat Dock for our private Dinner Cruise on the Milwaukee River and Lake Michigan. The meal they serve is a plated combo-meal to include dessert and beverages. We'll return to our hotel around 10 pm tonight. Breakfast & Dinner Cruise Included.
Day 5: October 22, ThursdayBreakfast at the hotel awaits and we'll travel northeast to Minnesota. Stops will be made as the day goes along. We'll meet around lunch time in Eau Clair around 1 pm for a lunch break. We'll also say good-bye to our friends from Central MN (here is where you'll meet your shuttle). We'll then continue the rest of the way northeast. Estimated arrival hours home are as follows; St Cloud @ 5 pm; Rice @ 5:30; 6 pm- Little Falls & 6:30 to Brainerd. Duluth @ 5 pm; Iron Range Cities @ 6:30 pm and Grand Rapids @ 7:15 pm. Breakfast is included.
