Day 1: Friday, August 9th
Specifics on boarding locations and time will be announced in mid-July once we know how many are joining us and where they are from. Standard boarding locations include those listed on the application form of the Folkorama brochure.
We will begin boarding as early as 5:00 am from various locations throughout Central and Northeast Minnesota.
Today our journey brings us northwest to Grand Forks, North Dakota straight north along I-29 to Pembina / Emerson where we'll cross the border. You will need proper Citizenship ID! All passports must be valid at least 6 months from the date of this tour (Feb 2025). Just put your seats back and relax allowing us to take care of all the little details of this fun summer adventure to Winnipeg.
4:30 pm- Estimated arrival to Winnipeg in late afternoon – Wyndham Garden. Tonight, your evening is yours, as per your agenda.
This property is only a year old at the time we booked it for this tour and is in a fabulous location. They have a full-service restaurant that is open until 9 pm. They also offer a wonderful breakfast in the morning, indoor pool, fitness center and hot tub. What makes the Wyndham Garden so nice is that is walking distance to one of Winnipeg’s favorite shopping malls. We are here 4 nights. Welcome to Winnipeg!
Day 2: Saturday, August 10th
Enjoy breakfast this morning at the hotel (included) before we begin our first day of sightseeing!
9:00 am- Board the coach for an Area City tour of Winnipeg.
Our city step-on-guide will tell us about the history and culture, the people of Winnipeg and how it got it's name. You'll find that Winnipeg is a delightful city with so much to offer and explore. Included today is the Leo Moi Sculpture Gardens. Combining artistic beauty with a natural setting, the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden offers a quiet retreat to enjoy the magnificent works of master sculptor, Dr. Leo Mol.
The garden was created as a result of Dr. Mol’s generous gift of his wonderful bronze pieces and works of art to the community in which he lived. The garden is also home to the Leo Mol Gallery, featuring works by the gifted artist, and the Leo Mol School House Studio. In the 1960s Leo Mol purchased the former schoolhouse and many of his pieces were completed in it during the 1970s and 1980s.
11:45 am –1:30 pm- Enjoy a light lunch in the Old Market Square, paying on own. Keep it light as we have another big meal tonight.
2:00 pm– 3:30 pm – Our next stop is a visit to the Royal Canadian Mint Facility.
What a unique experience to see up close and personal Winnipeg’s Royal Canadian Mint location. It is a world leader in circulation coin design and innovation. Established in 1976 as a high-tech, high-volume manufacturing facility, every single Canadian circulation coin is produced here, as well as circulation coins for the countries around the world.
4:00 pm- Return to the hotel where we’ll relax a bit, freshen up before we begin our FIRST night at FOLKLORAMA!
5:00 pm- Board the coach for your first experience of the Folklorama Festival.
We’ll enjoy a 3-course meal, 3 wonderful ethnic pavilions, music, dance, costumes and more. We do not know which THREE Ethnic Pavilions we’ll visit this early on…Stay tuned as we await the announcement from the Folklorama Committee.
10:30 pm- We’ll return to our hotel. B & D
Day 3: Sunday, August 11th
Enjoy breakfast this morning at the hotel (included) before we begin our 2nd day of exploring Winnipeg!
10:00 am- Board the coach and travel to Oak Hammock Marsh. We will be here for about 1 ½ hours.
Unfurl your fingers and let a wild bird fly free. Be part of an important research by banding a real, live bird after you’ve learned why Oak Hammock Marsh is such an important stop on its migration path. Feel its feathers flutter in your gentle closed palms a second before the moment of release. After lunch, we’ll make our way to another amazing attraction in Winnipeg.
12:00 pm- Arrive to the Museum of Man and Nature:
The Manitoba Museum is the province’s largest, not-for-profit center for heritage and science learning. We are renowned for our vivid portrayal of Manitoba’s rich and diverse history, Planetarium shows, and Science Gallery exhibits. The Museum’s collections reflect the heritage of Manitoba and other regions of the world. Our nine interpretive galleries explore the interrelationship of people and their environment. Travel through millions of years as you journey from north to south across Manitoba’s vast and varied landscape, from the icy arctic coast to the windswept prairies. The Museum is noted for its three-dimensional walk-through galleries. Highlights include the Nonsuch, a full-size 17th-century sailing vessel, and the 1920 Winnipeg Cityscape, which takes you back in time to Winnipeg during the 1920s.
3:00 pm- Return to the hotel for a couple of hours to relax and enjoy a couple of hours at your leisure.
5:00 pm- Board the coach for our 2nd night at the Folklorama Festival.
Another 3-course progressive meal with so much waiting for us! It’s 3 wonderful ethnic pavilions, music, dance, costumes and more. Again, we’ll announce the pavilions once the Folklorama Committee announces the line up on this night.

10:00 am- Board the coach for an exciting adventure to the Assiniboine Park Zoo & Park Conservatory – Journey to Churchill
Assiniboine Park Zoo is an 80-acre zoo at the west end of Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It has been best known for decades for its polar bear exhibit, of which the old enclosure was replaced in 2013 with Journey to Churchill. The award-winning Journey to Churchill exhibit is the most comprehensive northern species exhibit of its kind in the world. Experience a variety of naturalistic landscapes, animal viewing areas, interpretive signage and interactive displays which invite visitors to learn about biodiversity, climate change and conservation. It is an educational classroom like no other, inviting exploration, challenging thinking and promoting personal action. At the Wapusk Lowlands, a towering inukshuk welcomes visitors to Journey to Churchill. With no visible barriers between the species, visitors experience the vastness of the tundra. The Churchill Coast presents a façade resembling the town of Churchill, where visitors will feel as though they have been transported to the northern frontier.

Day 5: Tuesday, August 13th

7:30 am- Set your luggage outside your doors. 8:30 am- Coach departs Winnipeg for home.
Set your seats back and relax as our driver brings us back home to Minnesota. This day is dedicated to travel. We'll make lunch and comfort stops along the way. Below are estimated arrival hours today.
12:30 pm- Estimated arrival to Grand Forks, ND (Lunch, paying on own)
4:30 pm- Estimated arrival to Bemidji; 5:30 pm- Estimated arrival to Grand Rapids.
In Grand Rapids at the Sawmill Inn is where folks from Central Minnesota will meet their motorcoach transfer with an estimated arrival home around 8:15 pm. For Northeast Minnesota, the estimated arrival home will be 7:00 pm to Hibbing ; 7:30 pm to Virginia; 7:45 pm to Eveleth; 8:45 pm to Duluth.
~Things to know before you go~ You must have a valid passport, enhanced driver’s license or passport card
Coach: Relax in a deluxe motorcoach as we ride in comfort with a professional driver! These vehicles are new, state-of-art offering comfortable seats, a restroom, cup holders, mesh pockets, leather interior, foo- rest, large spacious windows and Wi-Fi with electrical outlets. Depending on the size of the group from central Minnesota, we may use a smaller van, mini-coach or a motor coach.
Special Requests: Kindly let us know if you have a special need we should be aware of BEFORE we leave. We do not rotate seats on the coach. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requests. We also ask you to refrain from using perfumes / fragrances due to allergies.
Hotels: We stay in 3-4 star properties. Stay tuned as we announce what hotel we will be using.
How to pack and what to wear: You can pack one suitcase each. You may also bring on board a carry-on bag. The hotel where we are staying does not have porters so you will need to carry your own luggage. They have an elevator. The tour is completely casual & comfortable. It’s summertime….so pack light and wear comfortable shoes.
Use of Cell Phones: Check with your cell phone company to see what your coverage includes. You may wish to add short term Canadian coverage about a week prior to your departure.
Canadian Money: A little bit of Canadian money is fine to bring along, but generally we suggest using your credit card to get the best exchange rate. Check with your bank on the current rates at the time.
