Beautiful San Antonio River Walk: Millions of people visit the River Walk each year to enjoy this unusual urban sanctuary that winds along the San Antonio river in central San Antonio, one story below the bustling street level. The lush landscapes, quaint pathways, tinkling waterfalls, quiet pools, outdoor art and relaxing outdoor patios evoke the renowned public spaces of Europe. What started as the vision of a young architect, in 1929, has grown, over the decades, into one of the world's most distinctive meeting places – and we’ve got FOUR nights at the lovely Holiday Inn River Walk – just steps outside the hotel door. Enjoy.
121st Annual Fiesta San Antonio: Fiesta really is one of America’s truly great festivals. It began as a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. That commemoration still takes place. But over the past century and more, Fiesta has grown into a celebration of San Antonio’s rich and diverse cultures. Fiesta San Antonio started in 1891 as a one-parade event and has evolved today into one of this nation’s premier festivals with more than 100 events. Our accommodations are located on the River Walk where you can stroll at your leisure and take in as much of the festival as you choose. Events include Battle of the Flowers Parade, Mariachi Festival, Fiesta Flambeau Parade, River boat tour, Night in Old San Antonio, the Market Square and so much more. Viva Fiesta!

Day by Day Itinerary for the Fiesta San Antonio Tour April 23 - May 1, 2012:
Travel day to Des Moines, IA (400 miles from Duluth & 235 from Burnsville) This is a day dedicated to traveling south. The day will fly by quickly as people get acquainted with fellow travelers. Stops every 2 ½ - 3 hours are made as needed. Our lunch break will be in Burnsville at the Burnsville Mall. A 5:30 pm estimated arrival is expected to the Drury Inn West Des Moines. This property offers a great Happy Hour reception upon our arrival to include hot and cold snacks and beverages. Enjoy.

Travel to Oklahoma City, OK. Again, another wonderful travel day is in store with stops along the way as needed. Set your seats back and relax as we travel along. This is a 550 miles day with an expected arrival of 5 pm to the Hampton Inn Hilton property near the airport. A wonderful Manager’s Reception greets our arrival. But for those who might still be hungry, there are many great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

Travel to San Antonio, TX. We are about 500 miles to San Antonio. Our route takes us from Oklahoma…south to Kansas with our lunch break in Fort Worth, Texas. We’ll be here for about two hours and then continue to San Antonio. Our hotel is fabulous! The Holiday Inn is a full service property that is located directly on the San Antonio River Walk. You are only steps away once you step outside the rear entrance of the hotel. After you get settled in …. You may wish to take a short stroll along the river and see what brings so many people to this lovely city annually.

This morning we’ll bring you to the SAS Shoe Factory. Here you’ll watch a pair of shoes be made beginning with a piece of cow hide to the finished product! We can only take 30 people on the tour, so it’ll be a first-come, first-served basis. This tour requires a fair amount of walking and wheelchairs/ walkers are not permitted on the factory tour. Those who come on the tour, will also get to put your names in a drawing and take a chance at winning a brand new pair of shoes! After our morning tour to SAS, we’ll return to the hotel before our next event. Lunch today is included, during our narrated San Antonio city tour (which also includes a tour of the Alamo!). We’ll return to the hotel (5:30 pm) in time for Fiesta “Night in Old San Antonio”. The purpose of this event is to try all the foods of all ethnic groups that came to San Antonio. You’ll also enjoy several bands while sampling and nibble along the way!

Our day begins with a visit to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. Oh my goodness…this place is awesome. Not only will you enjoy a 33 acre living museum with floral displays, native forest walks, exotic plant, rose gardens and Japanese Garden…but we’ve also included time to stroll the Bird Walk where you can view birds of many types. We’ll be here about 2 ½ hours. We’ll return for the afternoon festivities on the River Walk but also make a bit of time for shopping. We’ll visit Miss Margaret’s Victorian home, built before the turn of the century by a German nobleman located in the King William historic neighborhood during this day, too. More about Miss Margaret a little later…. A nice dinner is included tonight (specifics yet to be announced).

Why not jump on board and we’ll take a drive into Texas’ Hill Country….This is a day set aside for exploring the charming city of Fredericksburg where Texan hospitality and German traditions thrive. Fredericksburg is home to the 2nd largest wine tasting destination in the country and they make delicious chocolates, too. (Yes, we’ll visit a winery today). Time will also be made where we can stroll "widest Main Street in Texas”, alive with quaint one-of-a-kind shops (that you won’t find anywhere else), antiques, galleries, restaurants and music. If you prefer to stay at the hotel and enjoy more Fiesta San Antonio, no problem! Join us on our motor coach side trip into the Hill Country OR simply enjoy the day as per your own agenda.

We’ll set our luggage outside our doors and say good-bye to San Antonio. We’ll leave around 7 am in the morning with a plan to arrive in the later afternoon to Oklahoma City (500 miles). We’ll stop by the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. With this being a Sunday, we wont’ have to worry about traffic congestion and arrive early enough to allow a nice tour and time for this wonderful memorial. After our visit here, we’ll check into the Hampton Inn OKC Airport (same property when en-route down).

Early bags out (6:30 am) with departure an hour later. Stops will be made as needed. We’re en-route to Des Moines (550 miles) where we’ll stay again at the lovely Drury Inn. You’ll just set your seats back and enjoy fellow travelers as the day goes along. Again, the wonderful Drury Inn awaits our arrival – Cocktails & other delicious foods to nibble on await. Tonight we’ve also included a nice “farewell” dinner.

We’ll be boarding the coach around 8 am this morning and traveling home~ We certainly hope you’ve left a little room in your suitcase for all the wonderful memories you’ve made today. Arrival hour home is yet to be announced.

A few things you may wish to know. You may pack one suitcase per person which is handled for throughout the tour. This does not count your personal carry on luggage which you may also pack. This tour is entirely casual. Tips for the porters and included meals are included. The motor coach does require a few steps to get inside.
