Day 1: Wednesday, August 8th From Duluth we’ll travel to Merrillville, Indiana – 545 miles
The morning will feel like NYC’s Grand Central Station as folks arrive by shuttle coach from the Northeast MN area (Grand Rapids, Iron Range Cities)and we join our friends from Duluth, Superior and Central MN. Our friends from Central MN (Brainerd, Little Falls, St Stephens & St Cloud) will have arrived with our Trobec coach driver the day before and will be staying in Duluth (Country Inn and Suites). After breakfast and everyone is gathered, we’ll begin our journey southeast through the lovely states of Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. Enjoy a leisure day of travel, getting to know fellow travelers as we go along. We’ll stop every 2-½ - 3 hours for meals and comfort stops. Our first night’s destination is Merrillville, Indiana at the Fairfield Inn (Google Fairfield Inn Merrillville for more info) with an estimated arrival @ 6 pm. They have an indoor pool, laundry facilities and a restaurant within walking distance of the hotel. Today, meals are all paid for on own.

In the early evening, we’ve included a nice dinner at the Ginger’s Centerstage Café before taking you to see Disney’s “Mary Poppins” Broadway Musical. We selected Mary Poppins because it’s absolutely wonderful…including the story line and it’s familiar to people. It also offers a true NYC theater experience as the stage set, costumes, music and more is fantastic. Your escort will walk you about 7 ½ blocks to the restaurant and then a few blocks away to the New Amsterdam Theater. The theater is only about 2 blocks from our hotel. Note about Top of the Rock: Breathtaking vistas stretch for miles in every direction. You'll see New York's famous landmarks, including the Chrysler Building, Times Square, the Hudson River, the East River, Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. Perched 70 stories above the city at Rockefeller Plaza, the panoramic views of Manhattan are unequaled anywhere else in New York City. You may still visit the Empire State Building on your own, but this has become a NYC city favorite with tourists so we thought we would do the Top of the Rock this time and see what everyone is raving about.
