Click here for printable reservation form to mail to: Happy Trails Tours, PO Box 432, Forbes MN 55738 Day-by-Day Arizona Tour 2009 Day 1: March 13- FridayTravel to Omaha, Nebraska 540 Miles Begin picking up folks throughout northeastern Minnesota in the early morning hour. 8:25 - 9:2 5- Breakfast break, paying on own, at Perkins Miller Hill Mall in Duluth Noon - Lunch break, paying on own, in Burnsville at Applebees. 6:30 PM - Estimated arrival to the Crowne Plaza Omaha This property has an indoor pool, coffee makers, hairdryers, irons & ironing boards. The evening at your leisure. We will take you out to dinner tonight, paying on own. Day 2: March 14 - Saturday Travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 470 Miles You’ll rise bright and early this morning. A nice breakfast is included, at the hotel. 7:30 AM -Travel to Oklahoma City today making stops as needed along the way. A visit to the Oklahoma National Memorial Site will be made before checking in. 6:30 PM - Estimated arrival to the Hampton Inn in Oklahoma City, near the airport. This property does not have an indoor pool, but it’s sister property next door does and folks may use that one if they wish. The Hampton has coffee makers, irons & ironing boards and hairdryers in the rooms. There are many good restaurants within walking distance. Take the evening at your leisure. Day 3: March 15 - Sunday Travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico 460 Miles Enjoy breakfast, included, before departing this morning for Albuquerque. 7:30 AM - Begin our journey to Albuquerque making stops along the way as needed. As we travel to Albuquerque today, we’ll go right through Amarillo, Texas. We’ll stop there for lunch, included, at the Big Texan Steak House. 5:30 PM - Estimated arrival to the Drury Inn. (This is a nice facility with an indoor pool and laundry facilities!) They have a nice restaurant right next door called “Mimi’s Café” where you can get your dinner, at your leisure tonight. Day 4: March 16 - Monday Travel to Mesa, Arizona 500 Miles Enjoy breakfast, included, before departing this morning for Albuquerque. 7:30 AM - Begin our journey to Mesa….a lovely drive south to Arizona. Stops will be made as the day moves along. 5:00 PM - Estimated arrival to the Arizona Golf Resort. 4:15 PM - Check in to the Arizona Golf Resort for the next seven nights! What a place! It’s quite spread out and our group will be in two buildings. The building closest to the lobby & restaurant have only one king bed in the rooms so we will only use those for singles or married couples who don‘t mind sharing a bed. The 2nd building is about a block from the lobby & restaurant area, and has two beds so we use that building for all the other travelers needing the two beds in the room. (They are queen beds). We use the Arizona Golf Resort because it’s more secluded and quiet and yet we’re not that far from the various attractions around the Mesa, Phoenix, Tempe, Apache Junction & Scottsdale area. This property is full service with a restaurant, lounge, outdoor pool & hot tub, golf/gift shop, and the most beautiful golf course you’ll see anywhere. You don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy this property however, special Happy Trails Tours rates for golfers are available.... Just call us if you are interested. Day 5: March 17 - Tuesday City Tour of Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale & Tempe Enjoy breakfast, paying on your own (UNLESS you asked for the “add-on“ breakfast package). 9:30 AM - Board the coach and meet our step-on-guide for an Area City Tour. We’ll visit Scottsdale (where we’ll have lunch) and visit the state capitol and even stop at the citrus orchard. We’ll learn about the history, the people and see some lovely scenery. Day 6: March 18 - Wednesday A Side Trip to Sedona Today 8:30 AM - We’ll travel to Sedona, to include a delightful narrated city tour of the area. This quaint little artist’s town is home to some of the most beautiful pottery and scenery (Red Cliff Rock Formations) you’ll see anywhere in the country. Even if you’ve been to Sedona before, it’ll be fun to go again. We’ll make time for shopping and lunch while there along with the guided bus tour. 4:00 PM - Depart Sedona for our 2.5 hour ride to Mesa. Take the rest of the evening at your leisure today. Day 7: March 19 - Thursday Rawhide Western Town Enjoy your morning and afternoon as per your own agenda. The hotel offers shuttles to the mall or other nearby venues. It’s nice to have a lazy day where you can sit by the pool and sip a lemonade if that’s what you prefer. 4:00 PM - Board the bus and travel to the Rawhide 1800’s Western Town. This is a fun place where you’ll can become part of the action…It’ll feel just like an old western movie set….lots of things to see and do. We’ve included a great dinner here with time to browse and shop at your leisure. Day 8: March 20 - Friday Side Trip to Nogales, Mexico We’ve dedicated this entire day to a side trip to Nogales where folks can cross the border (by foot) and shop in this fun border town in Mexico. You must have a passport, folks, so if you don’t have one nor plan to get one prior to this tour, take this day at your leisure. A lunch is included in Tubac today with a little time to shop before traveling further south to Mexico. Once we arrive to the border, folks will have to “walk” over since our motor coach is not licensed to travel in Mexico. We’ll spend a couple of hours here before winding our way back to Mesa. We’ll make a dinner stop en-route home. Plan to be gone all day! Day 9: March 21 - Saturday Mesa Market Place / Organ Stop Pizza! Enjoy the early morning as per our own agenda. 10:00 PM - Re-board the coach and we’ll take you to the Mesa Market Place. We’ll stay about three hours (or longer if the group wishes!). You won’t believe your eyes … there are 500 venders. No way will you see everything but even in a few hours, you’ll find you’ll make a slight dent… 2:00 PM - Estimated - Return to the hotel for the rest of the day to enjoy as per your own agenda. Day 10: March 22 - Sunday Opportunity to Worship / Organ Stop Pizza! Enjoy the morning as per your own agenda….or worship at a church of your choice, sleep in or visit with friends or family! P.S. If you would like to go to church on Sunday morning, you’ll need to sign up tonight in the lobby stating your church preference and time. A list of churches will be in your hotel rooms the day before. Do not sign up at the last minute if you want the hotel to assist you in transportation, as it makes it difficult for them to arrange for more drivers at short notice. Thank you for your understanding. 3:30 PM - Board the bus and we’ll take you out to dinner at the Organ Stop Pizza. Though, you’ll pay for the meal yourselves, the entertainment while dining on your pizza is really fun. (They have other Italian dishes, too, not just pizza!) It’s a fun time.... PROMISE! 6:30 PM - Return back to the hotel. Day 11: March 23 - Monday An Entire Day at Your Leisure Enjoy this entire day …dedicated to your own personal agenda. As always…the hotel offers a Shuttle to various places of interest nearby the hotel such as; shopping mall, grocery store, etc… Day 12: March 24 - Tuesday Travel to Flagstaff, Arizona (Visit the Grand Canyon en-route) 161 Miles Enjoy a nice breakfast before departing this morning for Flagstaff. 8:00 AM - We’ll travel along, making stops as needed for lunch and coffee breaks. First off…we’ll visit the Grand Canyon - South Rim - prior to traveling to Flagstaff for the night. Our motor coach will wind around the canyon as our step on guide shares with us the magnificent stories about this area. We’ll get lunch, paying on own, while here. In the later afternoon, we’ll travel to Flagstaff and settle in for the night. 5:00 PM - Estimated arrival to Little America Hotel & Resort (You won’t believe this place!) Enjoy dinner, (included) at your leisure in the restaurant. You’ll have a voucher and can select any number of entrees from a special menu. This property is unbelievable! Just wait & see. Day 13: March 25 - Wednesday Travel to Santa Fe, New Mexico 400 miles A full breakfast is included this morning at the hotel. An early departure is planned today with our sights on Santa Fe! Stops will be made as needed. 4:00 PM - Estimated arrival to the Hotel Santa Fe (within the historic district) This is a full service property, heated pool, hot tub, and absolutely beautiful! We’re here 2 nights. 7:00 PM - A nice dinner is included tonight at the hotel. Day 14: March 26- Thursday Exploring Santa Fe! A full breakfast is included this morning, at the hotel. 10:00 AM - We’ll take you out for a nice narrated tour of Santa Fe! We’ll make a few stops, grab some lunch and give you all time to explore as per your own agenda. After the tour, you’ll spend the rest of the day as you so desire. Day 15: March 27 - Friday Travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 550 Miles The hotel offers a wonderful breakfast, included, prior to departing this morning. 7:30 AM - Board the bus. We are about 10 + hours from Oklahoma City. Stops will be made for lunch and coffee breaks as the day goes along. 6:30 PM - Estimated arrival to the Hampton Inn. It’s the same property where we stayed before so you’ll know all the ropes this time!! Day 16: March 28 - Saturday Travel to Des Moines, Iowa 530 Miles Your breakfast awaits you in the lobby. Enjoy. 7:30 AM - Be on board for our journey to Des Moines…about 10 hour away. 6:00 PM - Estimated arrival to the Wildwood Inn. 7:00 PM - We’ll take folks over to the Iowa Machine Shed for dinner tonight, paying on own. Day 17: March 29 - Sunday Travel HOME 500 Miles 6:30 AM - Your breakfast is served in the lobby! Help yourselves. We’ll be traveling along with stops made as needed today for lunch & coffee breaks. 5:00 PM - Estimated arrival to the Duluth area. Folks from Eveleth will get home at 6:45 and folks from Virginia will be about 7:00 PM. 7:30 PM - To Hibbing and Grand Rapids folks will get home about 8:30 PM.
